    +1 on the general idea, -1 on making it a Summer of Code project. The
    problem is that any significant new development has to be done by a
    person or a group dedicated enough to support and extend it beyond 3
    months of the SoC duration. We have 3 nice projects developed during
    SoC 2006, that are sitting in the SVN unattended:
