    Now were you mention it, I am using Cayenne 1.2M1 and have completed
    mapping the schema and generating the Classes.
    I am able to instantiate the concrete Class (mapped to the supper class
    using the Modeler) but the fields of the super class have a NULL value.

    I volunteer for testing vertical mapping once Cayenne is ready, - Let us
    know :)
