Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: CAY-298
Summary: Serialization behaviour of DataObject wrt its DataContext can be confusing
Type: Improvement
Status: Assigned
Priority: Minor
Project: Cayenne
Components:
Cayenne Core Library
Versions:
1.1
Assignee: Andrus Adamchik
Reporter: Craig Turner
Created: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 9:55 PM

Environment: Linux, jetty, tapestry 3.0.2
Description:
It seems that when a dataobject deserializes, whether or not it gets a datacontext depends on whether or not a datacontext is deserialized at the same time. This comes across as odd behaviour to someone in my situation.
Here is a summary of the situation. There is a web application in tapestry and each user has a DataContext stored in their session. On a dynamic page, tapestry displays a report where each line is a DirectLink referencing a DataObject (via the parameter binding). When the user clicks on the link, you expect it to be passed through with its dataobject intact, but in fact it gets dropped.
It would be practical to have the option of having the DataObject keep its DataContext.

"I don't think we have a JIRA issue though. Can you please submit a report, or otherwise it'll get lost again."
