I'm not using email for this fast acces, but NNTP offered by *GMANE* .
Just try it yourself :) - thousands of lists fast to access(from almost all open source projects
that are alive), directly into Thunderbird :).
There's nothing more efficient than that so far, not even the AJAXed gmail webinterface :).
