What I'm proposing only affects compiling - not deployment. One of the
things that was added to the ant scripts recently is a target
attribute for the javac task. So, as long as we aren't using runtime
annotations, generics (well technically we can use generics,
but...............................), concurrency stuff, etc, we can
safely use compile-time annotations for compiler directives, as well
as the NLS directives and a few other things.
Since they only instruct the compiler, it can still generate 100% 1.4
(and 1.3 if needed) compliant bytecode
