For what it's worth, I've added the preference, but I'm debating whether or not it's worthwhile. One could make the case of not loading auto-loading a huge project file if that was the last thing worked on, but that can be easily fixed by opening a new project. I just don't want to have configuration overload when sensible "defaults" will do. But, the code is in there now. If it turns out it's not used that often, we can yank it.
