In your first email you said the error occurred when you tried to
regenerate the database schema in Cayenne.
Did you try to load an individual table to see if you can get anything?
You said Toad was working, why don't you manually enter the definition
for one table in the Cayenne Map, create and object and see if you can
work with it.
Since the error you got is so general it could be triggered by pretty
much anything. Perhaps a variation on how you obtain the meta-data,
accessing a damaged section/table, etc.

Try writing a very simple JDBC program to see if that works. If it
does, then it is probably something you changed. If not, it may give a
clue as to what is wrong. You can also use a JDBC monitor to watch all
the traffic on a JDBC connection to see what is going wrong.
