dataObject.writeProperty and validation of a new dataObject

    I'm calling writeProperty instead of setters on my dataObjects (trying
    to build dynamic Tapestry pages based on DataObject metadata) and I get
    validation failures on commit of a *new* object...not a modified one. I
    can see the values set correctly in the DataObject. So I figure that
    writeProperty is bypassing setting the validation. Is there a way
    around this without turning validation off completely...or is it just
    me?
