    it seems to me that
    CayenneDataObject.addToManyTarget(String targetName, DataObject obj,
    boolean reverse);

    and

    CayenneDataObject.setToOneTarget(String targetName, DataObject obj,
    boolean reverse);

    could do the job for you.
    Am I right?
