I think a better approach to solving this one might be to do
something similar to java where you can 'highlight' an identifier and
it will colourise all occurrences of that in the editor. Then you can
click on the little coloured squares on the right (just like the
little red and gold squares for errors and warnings) to jump you
directly to each one, or you can just hit CMD + G and it will jump to
the next one without having to do a find (although this just uses
find, and will select substrings).
