I did some tests and then mostly stayed with some halve baked solution. I
subclassed JRDataSource and implemented this as a wrapper around a Cayenne
DataObjectList. I then passed my own implementation of that JRDataSource
to my reports for filling. This works quite nicely.

I never really moved beyond this, mostly because of lack of time and that
I had no plan on how to integrate JFreeChart which makes everything a
little bit more complicated...

If anybody worked on this, I would be interested to hear your comments as
well.
