I had to tell Spotlight to ignore my Music, Library, and Projects folder
(which contains all my source code -- Java and Objective-C) in order to
get things back under control. If you need to search source code, "grep
-ir text directory" does a great job (from Terminal -- see, Apple didn't
remove all other search functionality :-). If you know the filename you
want to find, QuickSilver or LaunchBar is fantastic for that (and you
don't need to use the Terminal) -- just add those directories to their
search path.

PS. I'm beginning to wonder how many Cayenne developers are OS X users
now...

Continuing the OT discussion . . .
If you get one, I would really recommend getting the 7200 RPM drive. I
upgraded to Tiger in order to get Java 5 support, but in the process I
also got Spotlight, which absolutely destroys slower drives.
Unfortunately, getting rid of Spotlight isn't much of an option since
Apple removed all other search functionality.
