Sorry if it seems overblown -- that certainly wasn't my intent!
I have two main points:
1) Incubating projects should be positioned correctly whether in a blog
entry, release notes, documentation, or whatever.
The http://incubator.apache.org/guides/branding.html page came about
because of past issues, but Cayenne can easily avoid the pitfalls that
resulted in that page being created.
2) Keep communication in the project open.
http://www.apache.org/foundation/how-it-works.html#management has great
wording in the section "Balancing confidentiality and public discussion":
"We endeavour to conduct as much discussion in public as possible. This
encourages openness, provides a public record, and stimulates the
broader community."
Regarding the PMC lists, they only get used for topics that must remain
confidential, such as discussions about people (for specific example,
the suitability of a particular individual to become a committer). As a
result, there's probably little traffic on most PMC lists. Most PMC
activity should occur on the dev list in full view.
sorry ... I got off on a pendantic jag there, but I hope it provides
context for my comments. While Cayenne is in incubation I'll point out
any issues that I spot.
